Legend. LV diastolic pressure estimated by the ratio of transmitral E (top panels) and septal annular Ea velocities (bottom panels). A normal (left panels) shows a normal Ea and an E/Ea of 8. A patient with elevated LV diastolic pressure (right panels) shows an elevated E/Ea of 40 with a low Ea, both of which are associated with a poor prognosis. See pages 1908 and 1909.
