Figure 2 Western Blot Analysis of Immunoreactive BNP Species in Plasma From HF Patients

(A) Plasma samples from 5 HF patients were incubated with BNP antibody-conjugated beads for 16 h at 4°C. A control sample with 1 ng recombinant proBNP and 3 ng BNP (lane 1) and the immunoprecipitates (lanes 2 to 6) from HF individuals were subjected to Western blot analysis. The BNP concentration in the patients' plasma as determined by the Biosite Triage point-of-care assay is indicated. (B) Recombinant proBNP (lanes 1 to 3) and the immunoprecipitates (lanes 4 to 6) from an HF patient were incubated with or without deglycosylation enzymes (E) for 8 h, then subjected to Western blot analysis. BNP = B-type naturiuretic peptide; HF = heart failure.
