Figure 2 In a subgroup of five training and five control patients, immunohistochemical staining of tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-alpha, interleukin (IL)-1-beta, and IL-6 were performed at baseline to confirm the location of the cytokines in the skeletal myocytes. Representative immunohistochemical images of TNF-alpha, IL-1-beta, and IL-6 are shown in Figure 1. Note the location of cytokine staining within the skeletal myocytes. Negative controls (i.e., incubated without the specific antibody) are shown for comparison.
