The total number of patients with obstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy is expressed in bold (n = 98). The patients treated by surgical therapy are expressed in italics (n = 57). The first column represents the NYHA functional class of the patients at presentation to our institution. The second column represents the NYHA functional class of nonoperated patients at their latest visit or the NYHA functional class of patients treated by surgery just before operation. The third column represents the NYHA functional class of patients treated by surgery at their latest visit.
