Figure 1 Photomicrographs of renal (A,a) and iliac (B,b) arteries of pigs fed the control (small letters) or the methionine-rich diet (capitals). The transverse sections (black letters) were obtained at x150 after orcein staining. They show elastic lamina fragmentation (black arrow) and cellular hyperplasia (black arrowheads) in the media. The views of the luminal surface of the endothelium (white letters) were obtained with scanning electron microscopy at x750. Endothelial cell bulging in the arterial lumen is associated with intercellular holes (white arrows).
