Figure 1 Basal and NADPH-Stimulated Superoxide Production

Box plots of basal and nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate (NADPH)-stimulated superoxide production from right atrial appendage homogenates of patients who remained in sinus rhythm (SR) (n = 99) and those who developed atrial fibrillation (AF) post-operatively (n = 71). The difference in basal superoxide production between SR and AF patients did not quite reach statistical significance (p = 0.07); however, NADPH-stimulated superoxide production was significantly greater in patients who developed AF in the post-operative period (*p < 0.0001).
