Figure 1 Intravascular ultrasound images in diastole (right) and systole (left). The inner tracing marks the lumen-intima boundary, and the outer tracing the outer margin of the intima-media layer. Plaque area was calculated as the difference between these areas. Plaque cross-sectional area decreased from 7.8 mm² during diastole to 6.9 mm² during systole.
