Figure 1 Brain MRI findings (T2-weighted images) of silent multiple lacunar infarcts. The top images show lacunar infarcts (arrows) in the basal ganglia, and the lower images show those infarcts (arrows) in the deep white matter. Cerebral infarcts were defined exclusively as a low signal intensity area (3 to 15 mm in size), depicted on T1-weighted images, that was also visible as a hyperintense lesion on T2-weighted images.
